DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free\, fun and interactive class on how and why to use to sign language to communicate with your child on Saturday\, November 3 from 9-11am at Bornhava. Sign language is the use of manual signing allowing infants and toddlers to communicate prior to spoken language development. There will also be Bornhava staff and fellow DSPG families on hand to answer any questions you may have about local Early Intervention services. DESCRIPTION:The DSPG is hosting a conference\, “Empowering Ourselves for a Better Future”\,  at St. Mary’s High School in Lancaster on Saturday\, May 3. You can download the brochure here or you can anticipate receiving it in the mail the first week of April. We are excited to have Brian Skotko as the Keynote Speaker. He will be presenting on “Keeping our Children and Adolescents with Down Syndrome Healthy: Medical Updates that Parents Need to Know”. In the afternoon he will close the conference with a conversation on “What Your Other Children without Down Syndrome are Thinking: Sibling Issues for Parents”. Carrie Bergeron will also be joining us again and presenting in one of our scheduled break-out sessions. We have a variety of sessions planned. A description of the sessions will be included on the registration form. \nA fabulous catered lunch by PoppySeed in Orchard Park is included in the registration fee. Director Alexandra Codina follows her cousin Monica through her marriage to David\, and their first months living together. Both Monica and David have Down syndrome. The film explores the complexities of supporting the couple\, and the struggles they\, and their parents\, face as they try to fulfill their hopes and dreams. Hopefully the film will spark a lively discussion. It’s definitely worth seeing.
